Continuing the Legacy; Fulfilling the Dream
Describe your feelings on May 4, 2014, the day of your installation.
"I felt truly blessed. It was also like I was already in place because when Pastor
Wilson became ill, I was doing what I was supposed to do as the Associate Minister.
Pastor Wilson allowed me to assume Pastoral responsibilities due to his declining
health. Although I was overwhelmed on the day of the installation; it felt natural. I
felt like I was born to do this; it was pre-destined."
What legacy did Pastor Matthew Wilson leave in your opinion?
"He stressed to me how important it is to be humble, to treat people right and with respect. He did
not believe in being a burden on the church. The main thing he taught me is how to be a servant
He would always tell me, "You cannot lead if you cannot follow."
Serving people is what the Bible tells us to do. I always tried my best to
serve Pastor Wilson."
What challenges have you faced as a new Pastor?
"Probably the transition from minister to Pastor. lt was a transition, but it still
seems to be natural with the help of the Holy Spirit. "
Describe your wife in reference to her role as the First Lady.
"My wife is My Blessing, My help meet... God blessed me with her and anything that I
need, she is right there to help me. My wife assisted First Lady Wilson. Although we
did not realize it at the time; Sis. Wilson was really training her. My wife is active in
the church as the Youth Director, sings in the choir, makes the programs and she also
helps in the kitchen.
When I asked God for a wife I asked him for somebody who
could handle me, and I truly love and appreciate her. "
You are a Pastor, husband, father, and grandfather. How do these roles intermingle?
"They are all dealing with God's people. The Bible tells us that we must manage our
own homes well. I have to be a good leader in my home and a good example for my
family. I have to serve the Lord in spirit and in truth. Being a father teaches me how
to love others and it makes me more sensitive to all people." Pastor and First Lady Lott's Children: Daughters: Vanetria, Connie, Nicole, Alexiss, Tashira and Son, Dontori Lott; Grandchildren: Tristan, Braylen, Reyna, Adrian, Nivea, Levi, Ki'yen, Autumn
Your Message to the People:
"I truly thank everyone; especially the members of the Grant
Chapel Baptist Church. I appreciate Deacon Clarence
Johnson; he has always told me to just "pray about it." One
of my favorite scriptures is, "Be ye steadfast, unmovable,
always abounding in the work of the Lord for as much as ye
know your labor is not in vain in the Lord." (l Corinthians
15:58)
I want to do what the Lord has for me to do. I want
to serve the Lord and Love God's people. I know that if I do
as written in Matthew 6:33, "Seek ye first the kingdom of
God and His righteousness, all things will be added unto
me."
It is all about preaching salvation to the people and
this is what makes us better people.
What are your Future Plans/Mission for the Church?
"I took on the vision of my pastor, Pastor Wilson. I feel like Elijah and Elisha; God has prepared me to take things to a
higher level. Currently, on the 5th Sundays, God has led me to have the women of the
church speak, and they are in charge of the services. The youth are in charge with the assistance of
the men; and of course, the 1st Sunday is the Lord's Supper. We had a Living Legends
program and the youth honored and served the Senior Citizens."
